Background

Communities In Schools (CIS) was founded 40 years ago on the belief that students would achieve academically when resources to address their educational and social service needs were tailored, coordinated and accessible. The CIS Model of Integrated Student Supports (ISS) has been rigorously evaluated by several independent assessments and established as an evidence-based approach to decreasing dropout rates, increasing graduation rates, and improving proficiency rates in math and reading for at-risk students. With approximately one third of U.S. students failing to graduate with their peers – nearly half of all racially diverse/minority students – the work of CIS could not be more relevant and essential.
