Arts in the Middle launched its inaugural two day Fine Arts Festival on the grounds of historic Hewick Plantation in May of 2015.
The Arts in the Middle Festival brought the arts to Middlesex County in the following ways:
Arts in the Middle, Inc. sponsored an educational activity for children as part of the Urbanna Oyster Festival in November 2015. With the help of volunteers, children built, decorated and floated small wooden boats in a pond at Urbanna Harbor.
Arts in the Middle was a loosely organized group of citizens interested in promoting the arts in the summer of 2014 when Middlesex County and the Town of Urbanna received an incentive grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts to support an art event in the county. The 2015 show goal, was to bring together artists from the Middle Peninsula and beyond to showcase their works, to demonstrate the impact the arts can have on smaller communities and to celebrate the creative spirit in rural Virginia.
