Impact
2015-2016:
  • We worked on infrastructure and successfully completed our IRS paperwork and received our 501(c)(3) designation in Fall 2015.
  • We built a small, working board of directors and explored venue and programming options.
  • We welcomed our Resident Companies: Applause Unlimited and Barefoot Puppet Theatre.
  • We held our second Winter Puppetfest at Richmond Triangle Players December 26 - January 1 and were in the black.
  • We are hosting additional performances in 2016 and partnering with other organizations like Firehouse Theatre.
  • We are creating new programming/workshop opportunities for youth.

For the coming season we are working on:

  • A full season of performances.
  • Participating in the RVA Makerfest.
  • Presenting a film screening at The Byrd.
  • Hosting a puppet slam with professional puppeteers.
  • Engaging the community with our Pollinator Parade.

Needs
As a new organization, we are working on board development, programming and building organizational infrastructure. We need the following:
  • Strong board members with a passion for puppetry arts;
  • Volunteers to usher at our performances;
  • Funding for promotional materials (approximately $2,500);
  • Funding for our Pollinator Parade;
  • Help with Development/Marketing.
Background
Puppets Off Broad Street was founded in 2014 by Heidi Rugg, who recognized a need for an institutional puppetry presence in the area to better share puppetry with the community and to support the advancement of puppetry arts throughout the region.

We are a young (but enthusiastic!) organization and we look forward to serving the Richmond Region.
