The Ashland Swim Team (AST) is
a member of the Greater Richmond Aquatic League (GRAL) which is an organization
of swimmers, coaches and parents whose aim it is to promote and participate in
the sport of summer swimming. GRAL
provides an opportunity for young people to compete against others of similar
ability, in an atmosphere of fair play, good sportsmanship and safety.
The AST is a not-for-profit, non-stock entity dedicated
to the education of swimming skills as well as the emotional and physical
growth of its swimmers and to the morale of the community in which they live.
The coaches, parents, and all involved in AST will strive to make swimming a
fun experience and foster, in both parents and swimmers alike, the benefits of
hard work and sacrifice, the traits of good sportsmanship, the value of
self-discipline, the seeds and fruits of leadership, the exhilaration of
competition, and the joy of community spirit.

Although we operate on a shoestring budget, we do have expenses, such as coaches' salaries and replacing our equipment (lane lines, starter, stopwatches, etc.). Our most immediate need is to replace our aging lane lines. The purchase price on these is just under $5000 and does not include a hefty shipping surcharge.
Our team started in 1995 as a practice team with one exhibition meet. We joined GRAL in 1996. We have been blessed to have had our head coach with the team since 2000.
