Mission
To rescue animals from situations that are abusive, neglectful, and/or endangering.  Although primarily a canine organization, felines are not excluded from our rescue efforts.  We rescue stray and found animals, and those in danger of being euthanized at area shelters.  We value education for the public in all aspects of appropriate animal care, and promote the vital importance and advantages of spaying and neutering companion animals.

Impact
Tramp's Rescue took in, vetted and housed over fifty dogs in 2013.  We adopted 50 dogs to carefully chosen and screened homes.  We helped several low-income members of the community to spay/neuter and vet their dogs.  We provided dog houses, straw, toys and bones for some low-income "outside" dogs in the community.  We helped several people needing or wanting to re-home their dogs to find carefully chosen appropriately matched new forever homes.
In the coming year we hope to continue our life-saving work by rescuing more animals.  We hope to build a website that will help us to find more adopters, fosters and donors.  With (hopefully) increased funding and volunteers, we aim to improve the training and the adoptability of the dogs in our care. We hope to work with more low-income members of the community to educate and assist with spaying/neutering and proper care of their pets.

Needs
Funds:
  • To design and implement a website that will enable us to reach more adopters, volunteers, donors and other members of the community.
  • To continue to rescue, provide all medical care, daily living costs (such as food and housing), and to provide for low-income community animals that we will try to help.

Volunteers and In-Kind:
  • Volunteers and foster homes to house, train and love our dogs until forever homes are found.
  • Volunteers to start a dog-walking program for the dogs in our care.
  • Fund-raising assistance and donations in the form of food, dog treats, toys, blankets, leashes, etc..
Background
The founder of Tramp's Rescue started as a volunteer with another local rescue ten years ago and was also heavily involved in the weekly transports of dogs from rural shelters in the South to rescues, fosters and adopters further North.  Seeing how things worked, she decided she would do the most good by rescuing animals directly and built up a small devoted group of friends/foster parents.  What started with two available dogs grew into as many as 40 adoptable dogs at times.

We take in mostly stray abandoned dogs and dogs from area shelters.  We provide all medical care to nurse them back to their best possible health, including of course, spaying and neutering.  We house our dogs until they are adopted, providing for any and all of their needs.  We place our dogs (and some cats) into very carefully chosen and screened homes.  If for any reason the adopter becomes unwilling or unable to care for the pets at any time post-adoption, we always take our dogs back.  Also, we try to help educate and promote spaying and neutering, as well as proper care, of dogs in the community living out on chains or otherwise needing some advocacy.

CEO Statement
Essentially, Tramp's Rescue is the direction that life has always pulled me.  My heart has ALWAYS gone out to animals in need, and now I devote ALL of my time, money and energy into helping as many animals as possible.  Catching an emaciated, unhealthy hound on the road and nursing this soul to beautiful health and showing them security, love and care, and watching them blossom is an immeasurable blessing.

Matching these former unwanted dogs with amazing loving families and people is the best thing in the world. I could not do this to such a degree without the generous support of the doctors at Brook Run Animal Hospital, and my few very good friends in the world: Toni, Amadi, Ben and Lindsay, Gina and a few other wonderful foster friends.  Toni and Amadi are essentially my partners in this endeavor, and their gift of giving dogs a sweet happy new life and home until they are adopted is nothing short of miraculous.  Most would call it a sacrifice, but they LOVE IT!

There are so many people who give so much to help the dogs, and there are angels everywhere working to save lives, and I am inspired by such people as Cindy at the Amelia County Animal Shelter who has delivered so many of our dogs to us.  We have held an adoption stand at the Petsmart by Virginia Center Commons (9870 Brook Road, Glen Allen) for years, and through them so many animals have gotten dream forever homes.  The purpose of my life is to help as many souls as possible, and I am grateful for every kindness and generosity we receive along the way to help us do this!!

We have been a small group working to do as much good as possible with our own limited resources.  We are hoping to be able to continue with even more volunteers, fosters and donors.
