Background Jessica Ann Moore, was born on December 11, 1990 in Hopkinsville, KY. Jessica was the co-founder of Drop Out to Degree Program, Inc and an honor student at Seton Hall University majoring in Psychology. Jessica’s professional goal was to become a Psychologist specializing in helping men and women in the military who were suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Jessica also was an aspiring singer. She had recorded two singles and was scheduled to audition at the Apollo Theater in New York on October 3, 2010. Jessica, a loving, sweet, and caring person that was always willing to help her fellow man performed a heroic act that night. An altercation occurred with a man that was not admitted to the fraternity party. Within minutes, the man returned, kicked in the door, and began firing a gun. Jessica’s friend was shot in the face and arm. Jessica in a heroic fashion attempted to shield her friend from further injury was shot in the back of the head as a result. Jessica later died of her injuries on September 25, 2010. A senseless crime took out angel home too soon. This tragedy has affected people both national and international and inspired many to action. After Jessica's death, the Board Members decided to change the name to the Jessica Ann Moore Foundation to honor Jessica's memories and dedication to civic duties.
CEO Statement I am very excited about the future of the Jessica Ann Moore Foundation. We have just acquired the Ann B. Jackson Elementary School, Waverly, VA, that has been vacant since 2009. The building will be the future home of the Jessica Ann Moore Foundation and it will become a Community Center for the County of Sussex, VA. This will be the first of its kind in Sussex. We will bring various non-profit organizations to the community and some non-profit organizations that are located in Sussex will have a place to call home. We look forward to serving the community thru educational, recreactional, and summer programs for the youth. The community will also have a place to receive important information concerning their well-being. Any donations to the Jessica Ann Moore Foundation to help get this building up and running will be much appreciated.
Board Chair Statement I am pleased to serve as the Board Chair for such a worthy foundation. I am a retired Army Veterans with 22 years of service and helping my community is such an honor. I am doing what I have trained to do for the past 22 years. The Jessica Ann Moore Foundation gives me a sense of pride to continue to help/serve people.
