Needs
  1. Finances: Stavna ballet is a Richmond-based company that was founded in 2010. We are striving to become a powerful tool in our community. We have not received any financial support from grants or donors yet.
  2. Stavna Ballet needs volunteers and active members to help with the daily functions of the company and our outreach programs.
  3. Our main goal is to make the art of dance more accessible to today's youth.  We need a steady program as a way to offer free classes to inner-city children.
  4. As our ballet company grows, we are looking for a space to dance and theaters in which to perform.
  5. Our goal is to raise enough money this year to provide pointe shoes, costumes and supplies to our company dancers. We hope to be able to continue our charity events if we can receive financial backing through the community.
Background Stavna Ballet is a non-profit dance company that is passionate about making the art of dance accessible to today's audiences. Our hope is that our innovative blend of contemporary and classical dance will be inspirational and enriching to people in the community through our classes, free demonstrations, and performances.
CEO Statement
I am passionate in the thought that dance has no limits, and that there must be an environment in which talented artists can come together to create freely. There are many dancers looking for a place to continue dancing, including myself. Therefore, with a sense of duty, I founded this company to give local artists an outlet for artistic expression. Stavna provides this opportunity and is giving dancers a chance to perform, while bringing top quality ballet to the Richmond area.

Sharing my love and knowledge of dance is another personal philosophy essential to the foundation of Stavna Ballet. By creating Stavna, I have developed a professional company that is enthusiastic about giving back to the community. I am dedicated to bringing the art of dance to populations of people who may never have the opportunity otherwise. Through our non-profit organization, Stavna Ballet is able to move families, children, and future ballerinas one step closer to their dreams of dancing.
Board Chair Statement
I feel honored to serve on the Board of Directors at Stavna Ballet which is a new non-profit company in Richmond, VA. Founded in 2010 by Shannon McConville, the desire of Stavna Ballet is to become Virginia’s premiere contemporary ballet company by captivating, enriching and inspiring its community and audiences. Stavna Ballet relies on its generous partners to be able to fulfill this vision, but like many non-profit organizations funding is an inevitable challenge. Our board members and dancers volunteer countless hours to make the vision of Stavna Ballet come to life in the community. In order to create sustainable growth for the company, we must create new revenue streams. Most ballet companies rely on sponsors and grants to fund their performances, dancers, facilities and general operations. We have been fortunate to gain sponsorship from several local companies and recently embarked on a new relationship with national companies Grishko and Sansha dancewear manufacturers. We will continue to explore these partnerships while seeking grant funding from national artistic foundations, such as the National Endowment for the Arts, that share our desire to captivate, enrich, and inspire the world through the art of dance.

Organization Comments
The Stavna Ballet is in growth mode! Our goal is to expand our performing company to accommodate the increased popularity of our professional ballet company. We plan to produce a full length ballet in January and have yet been able to find the resources to pay our dancers. Our hope is to get 10 female and male dancers on salary in the company. Last year we launched the StavnaReach program as an initiative to bring dance into underserved areas in our community. We spent this summer partnering with the St. James Center teaching free movement classes to their preschool and elementary age students. We have been asked by many other local schools, churches and other non profits to bring our StavnaReach program to them- however without funding it has been extremely difficult to provide staff and resources to full-fill our program desires. We feel we are on the cusp of something truly beautiful and beneficial to our community, we just need the  financial support from donors.
