Background
Richmond Montessori School (RMS) was founded more than 45 years ago, when a group of forward-thinking parents brought the internationally acclaimed Montessori Method to Richmond, Virginia. RMS has provided parents an alternative to traditional public / private school models ever since.

We have experienced amazing growth and phenomenal success as a national model for Montessori programs and as a leader in independent school education. RMS is distinctive in its dual accreditation by both the American Montessori Society (AMS) and the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS). While there are more than 5,000 schools nationally that claim to utilize the principles of Montessori, only 160 are AMS accredited. RMS is one of only two schools in Virginia to hold both the AMS and VAIS accreditations.
RMS is governed by a fiscally responsible Board of Trustees. The school’s operations and programs are funded entirely by tuition and fees. Annually, private non-capital gifts support enhancements in four core areas – Montessori classroom environments and materials; financial aid; specialty programming; and professional development. As a result of prudent planning and strong administrative and Board leadership, the school is in a secure financial position to embrace the future

Organization Comments AudiRichmond Montessori School (RMS) is entering a new phase in its history – one that will expand the campus and greatly increase our ability to deliver the strong academic environment and the robust Montessori experience for which we are well known. Our enrollment is projected to grow, particularly at the upper elementary and middle school levels. The construction of a new Upper Elementary and Science academic building is central to achieving our objective: provide the space and resources for upper elementary and middle school students who wish to continue their Montessori education with RMS.
