Mission

Providing food, fellowship and essential items to those in need.

Impact
Community Thanksgiving Feast - Volunteer led event in the Greater Richmond Area.  Provides a free Thanksgiving meal to approximately 2000 individuals, representing the homeless, elderly, low income families/individuals, and those who otherwise would be alone for the Holiday.

Giving Bag Project - Provides essential toiletries to those in need.  To date, over 4000 bags have been distributed through our annual Thanksgiving Feast; as well as throughout the year.  Beneficiaries have included elderly, homeless and low income recipients.  Many are personalized for the types of recipients receiving a specific distribution (i.e., elderly get blankets, homeless get easy-to-make foods), etc.

Secret Senior Valentine Bags:  Provided approximately 325 reusable bags to independent seniors in the Greater Richmond Metropolitan Area.  Items consisted of toiletries, large-print puzzles, easy-to-open foods, and lap blankets, to name a few.

Needs
  1. Capacity Building Funds - to strengthen The Giving Heart as a sustainable nonprofit.
  2. Monetary funds for our Community Thanksgiving Feast (yearly budget is approximately $20,000).
  3. Salaried management positions to attain experienced personnel to assist in moving forward; realizing goals and to continue creating a known and trustworthy organization.
  4. Funds to continue in providing Giving Bags and Senior Bags to those in need.
Background
The Giving Heart began in 2003 as a grass-roots effort to be of service to others in the Richmond Metropolitan Area.  This initially involved providing opportunities for community awareness of volunteer needs, becoming a helping hand in the community and learning what needs were still sought without duplicating services.

As a volunteer-based organization, many trials and errors offered experiences in how to become solid and sustainable.  The Giving Heart has now evolved into a trusted organization, giving back to those in need.  As a volunteer-based organization, approximately 800-1000 individuals are involved in creating memories (through fellowship at Thanksgiving) and in giving essential items throughout the year.
CEO Statement
It has been my pleasure to found and direct The Giving Heart since its inception in 2003.  I am most proud of the sense of honor that we give - through financials, volunteer opportunities and the treatment of recipients to our events and programs.  We welcome ALL to our (Thanksgiving) table, show by example and encourage people to move forward.
Board Chair Statement
The Giving Heart has successfully brought back a community Thanksgiving Feast, creating a wonderful environment to welcome all to the table for food and fellowship.  No questions asked...just come as you are.  Whether it's to serve others or to enjoy the meal as a guest....we are happy to see close to 3,000 each year.  It has been our opportunity to see what else is needed around us.  Through this event, we have created a year-round Giving Bag distribution of essential items,  It is exciting to see that there are so many people that want to support our mission and to volunteer.  It is wonderful to see the number of volunteers who consistently return to help in our various programs.  I think it's a testament to the things we do and how people are treated and respected.
