The Friends generate community support and serve as a link between the library and the community. 
2015 Accomplishments:
  • Continued support for the library's materials budget.
  • Continued support for technology for customer use.
  • Continued to provide support for library programs for all ages.
  • Hosted author visits.
  • Representative attended 2015 Virginia Library Association meeting.
  • Participated in Arts & Culture Xpo
  • Provided support for the library's robotics team.
  • Updated website. 
2016 Plans:
  • Assist with opening of new North Courthouse Road Branch Library through support for materials, technology and programs for all ages.
  • Continue participation in Arts & Culture Xpo.
  • Update strategic plan. 
  • Continue to seek to
     a. Increase funding to $50,000 for materials acquisition.
     b. Increase funding to $50,000 for library hosted community programs and target underserved areas.
  1. $60,000 to directly benefit programming and materials acquisition.
  2. Donations of books, CDs, and DVDs to be resold for fundraising purposes.
  3. Volunteers to support various programs.
The Friends celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2011. We have grown from a handfull of volunteeers to a membership of nearly 400 serving the nine library locations in Chesterfield County. The North Courthouse Branch Library will open in 2016.
In addition to purchasing items for the collection, furnishings, and electronics for patron use, the Friends have funded numerous programs for children and adults in the library.
The Friends are advocates for the library system, both with the public and Chesterfield County government.

The President serves as the CEO as well.

The Friends is an incredibly diverse group of active volunteers who enthusiatically give their time and money for the benefit of the Chesterfield County Library Patrons. I am very proud to be associated with this group and it's current president.

The Board also has an Advocacy Standing Committee. Members address public hearings and community meetings to educate on the needs of library patrons and to support library programs for seniors, adults, and children. 
We are a growning organization that could use a good retreat to educate our board members to take the organization to the next level.

Due to budget cuts to the Chesterfield County Public Library, materials for patron use was decreased. The Friends provided funds to help offset those cuts.

CEO/ED/Board Comments The addition of the new North Courthouse Road Branch library facility in the spring of 2016 will necessitate additional support for the Chesterfield County Library system's materials, technology and programming budget as well as increase the need for additional Friends volunteers to assist the library in its mission.
