Amazing Raise raises $1.74 million in 36 hours

RICHMOND, VA – RVA’s annual 36-hour online giving event brought in $1,741,377 through 20,421 individual gifts through 6 pm, September 18th. The Amazing Raise, sponsored by The Community Foundation Serving Richmond and Central Virginia, celebrates and elevates local nonprofits at the start of the giving season. The fourth annual event surpassed last year’s gift totals by 13% and dollars raised by 12%.

“The Greater Richmond region has a generosity of spirit that rivals any city, large or small, and it extends to our affiliate region in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.” said Darcy Oman, President & CEO of The Community Foundation. “The Amazing Raise continues to shine a light on both the strong network of nonprofits that serve our region, as well as the thousands of people who view their work as important to our quality of life.

The event also combines philanthropy and fun. The Community Foundation, along with several individual and business sponsors, contributed a prize pool of $185,000 to incentivize giving throughout the event. Organizations held early morning coffees, cocktail hours and music marathons. The week’s festivities also included the 2nd Annual Amazing Raise 5K at the Boulders, sponsored by Brandywine Realty Trust and the Lingerfelt Companies, featuring 900 participants running and walking on behalf of 200 Amazing Raise charities.

Out of 619 participating organizations in this year’s event, 522 received at least one donation and 114 received more than 50. The majority of giving came from donors in the Richmond metro region, but extended across the state, the country and the world. For the first time in event history, donations came in from all 50 states. Richmond Symphony alone received donations from all states and earned the Nifty 50 Prize worth $1,000.
